Stone Repointing and Restoration

Near Dickerson, Maryland

The existing stone foundation of the barn was re-pointed with an appropriate lime mortar at all exposed surfaces (interior, exterior and where accessible on top).  Missing stones were replaced with material from ‘on site’.  Each mortar joint was chisel cleaned (approximately 1” deep) and then pressure blasted all exposed portions of the existing stone foundation of the barn.  Mortar joints were then re-pointed with a brushed joint that was similar in appearance to the existing joints.  All hard mortar that has been applied over the years was removed, and all new mortar that was applied was lime based.
